Creighton Is Underrated

Doug McDermott

Creighton is currently #13 in the Coaches poll and #17 in the AP Poll.  I don’t think that’s nearly high enough.  The Blue Jays have been very high in my rankings all season, and I fully expect that to continue.  The only loss thus far was to a Boise St. team that shot over 60% from the field.  Boise St. should certainly be in play for an NCAA Tournament bid.

While Creighton’s wins do not appear all that flashy, they have quietly piled up some very solid non-conference wins.  Wisconsin, Arizona St., St. Joe’s, Nebraska, Akron, and California are all quality teams.  They’ve defeated these 6 opponents by an average of almost 17 points per game.

There was a lot of chatter about Doug McDermott being a NPOY candidate last year, but a lot of that buzz has subsided.  I’m not really sure why.  He’s averaging almost 24 points per game, shooting over 87% at the line, 53% from 3 and almost 57% from 2.  Those are some pretty remarkable numbers.  I believe this team is a legit National Title contender that has not gotten the press it deserves.
